About
Paintings are like diary pages, and represent places I've visited or lived near, and found fascinating.
My working process begins with the camera. My painting process is driven and energized by memories of the actual places in the photographs. I analyze the photos and enlarge the imagery onto the canvas. Next I do the acrylic underpainting- large flat areas of color and value are applied to establish a foundation for development of the details. Color is based on the palettes seen in the photos. Two or three layers of detail are needed in order to build up satisfactory paint density of the image surface.
My hope is that the viewer will find these scenes of massive forms and vast spaces to be as amazing and fascinating as I have.
